Incorporated in 1959 in Palm Beach County Florida, Atlantis stretches from Lake Worth Drainage District L-14 Canal on the north to Lantana Road on the south, Military Trail on the west and finally South Congress Avenue to that east. Atlantis contains 1200 homes and is devoted to recreation. In fact, 44% of all the land in Atlantis (1.39 sq miles) is designated just for recreation!
Atlantis is an active community, with its mayor contributing a regular column to the local newsletter each month. For the last 21 years it has held its annual Holiday on Wheels Golf Cart Parade. Each person with a golf cart is tasked with decorating it as uniquely as possible. Awards are then given for: Best Use of Lights, Most Creative, Most Unusual, Most Festive and Best Overall. Food, beverages and a parade then makes its away from the Atlantis Country Club to City Hall.
Other local events vary by time of year, including a Tribute to Neil Diamond Dinner Show, Mothers Day Brunch Buffet, Summer Camp for Atlantis children. Local groups and clubs include chess club, children's dance classes, jewelry class, The Atlantis Literary Society, water color classes and the regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Lake Worth every Wednesday at noon, including guest speakers.
The population of Atlantis is approximately 2,005 people. JFK Medical Center is the largest employer. The median house price is approximately $400,000. Schools include Atlantis Elementary as well as Atlantis Academy.
